CBA's Website Offers Information, Tools for Managing Behavioral Health Issues

August 01, 2008

Columbia, S.C. – Companion Benefit Alternatives Inc. (CBA), the largest manager of mental health and substance abuse treatment benefits in South Carolina, has launched a website that includes a wealth of resources for its 1.2 million beneficiaries and the health care providers who treat them.

While the site is designed primarily for its customers, CBA believes much of the information will be useful to the general public.

The site, www.CompanionBenefitAlternatives.com, contains information on mental illnesses and substance abuse, links to articles, wellness tips, treatment options, an explanation of the different types of behavioral health providers and how to locate one, and descriptions of member programs. Among the interactive tools are self-assessments that can be printed and shared with a health care provider.

A section for providers features protocols, manuals and information on precertification requests, filing claims, best practices, and how to apply for CBA network membership. Insurance agents and brokers will find information on CBA’s products, including its integrated employee assistance program.

More than 70 percent of CBA’s beneficiaries live in South Carolina and receive their behavioral health benefits through the state’s leading health insurance plans. CBA also manages benefits for members enrolled in insurance plans across the United States.

“Our new website is a tremendous tool that will assist us in managing our members’ behavioral health benefits and help us improve the quality of our communication with our customers — both patients and clinicians,” said Stephanie Heckart, CBA’s executive director.
